Activity Camps & Retreats

Summer Activities Retreat

Join us for a week of outdoor activity taster sessions!  This is a great way to experience a range of outdoor activities with like minded people.  All activities will be aimed at beginners, which is perfect if you’re looking to try new things and pick up new skills.  If you’re already experienced in our activities, no worries – this is still a brilliant week for anyone looking to get away from it all and unwind. You’ll be making new friends and staying in a cosy wee glamping pod at our accommodation, Howe of Torbeg.  Think glamping pods in the most peaceful and scenic location, overlooking the countryside and river. Ideal for campfires, toasting marshmallows and getting to know your fellow adventurers.

On the Monday you will have time to travel to beautiful Aberdeenshire for mid afternoon, arriving at your accommodation.  Here we will have a quick site induction, get you settled in and have a chat about the plans for the week. Followed by dinner and a good nights rest to set you up for the days ahead!

We have some great activities planned for the week including:

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

We will head to a nearby scenic loch for some stand up paddleboarding. Whether you have been on a board before or not, don’t worry this activity is for all.  You will receive an intro to the kit from our expert guide from Sup 2 Summit and then you will be coached on the water. By the end of the session you will be perfectly comfortable and relaxed and taking in the scenery on the loch!

Introduction to Rock Climbing

Our multi-talented guide from Sup 2 Summit will show you “the ropes” for this session too! We won’t be hanging off 300ft cliffs, instead starting with small steps and making sure everyone is comfortable and having fun.

Yoga

In the evenings we will have some yoga sessions with the wonderful Fiona from Ojas Yoga and Massage.  Aimed at all levels, this will be the perfect way to unwind and stretch out those well worked muscles.

Guided E-MTB Ride

With the introduction of high-quality electric mountain bikes we now have the opportunity to explore the countryside by bike a lot more effortlessly than before. The experienced guides at Eguide Scotland will talk you through the workings of the bike, making sure everyone is comfortable before heading out on a guided ride around Royal Deeside. The main benefit of the Ebikes is that we can stay together as a group no matter what fitness and ability level you are.

Hill Skills Workshop

The least extreme of our outdoor activities but probably the most educational and certainly covering the most important skills to be learnt. This day will be led by Hillgoers, our local mountain guides.  They will take you on an educational outdoor based learning course in the form of a guided walk in the hills. You will learn essential skills about the outdoor access code, map reading and what to do in an emergency.  This is a must for anyone who spends time in the hills, no matter how experienced.  There is always more to learn!

 Massage

As an optional extra, Fiona from Ojas will also be on hand to provide a range of massages in the evenings. This will again help to aid recovery of those achy muscles and add an element of relaxation that lends itself to the surrounds at the Howe of Torbeg perfectly.

All meals will be provided apart from on the last night where we will head to the nearby village of Ballater together for some dinner and drinks. There are many good restaurants and bars to choose from!

Food

For breakfast each morning we will provide porridge, cereal, fruit, tea and coffee. Packed lunches will be provided each day and evening meals will consist of things like macaroni, chilli or risotto. We may also have a BBQ on the firepit or some outdoor pizza making, depending on the weather.

You are in good hands as your host is a qualified chef with current food hygiene certification and all food is prepared in a kitchen approved by the local authority.

Everything else you need to know….

On our last day the choice is yours on how to spend it. If you have a long journey home then you can head off early or we can spend the day doing some weather appropriate activities.

For an additional cost we can provide some great foodie and distillery tours or there may be availability to revisit your favourite activity of the week. Another option for no additional cost could be a scenic low level walk guided by us. The day is yours to do what you like and we can discuss as the week goes on.
